How the scale works
Energy labels run from A (most efficient) down the alphabet. Plus grades (A+, A++, A+++) mark the most efficient tiers within the top band.
The label also shows estimated annual energy use in kilowatt-hours (kWh/year) — the number to compare between models.
The payback maths
A more efficient appliance costs more upfront but less to run. On always-on appliances like fridges and freezers, the running-cost savings often outweigh the price premium within a few years.
Beyond the label
Inverter motors, good door seals, and correct sizing all reduce real-world consumption. Buying the right capacity — not oversizing — is one of the biggest savings you can make.
